Fielders was founded in 1928 by brothers, Ernest and William Fielder who bought a small booksellers and stationers in Wimbledon for their wives. They (the brothers!) are seen here with their father George on the balcony of the James Russell Photographic studio on the corner of Worple Road and Wimbledon Hill. George Fielder was the co-founder of the photographic business in Wimbledon around 1880. Most of the photographs of 'Old' Wimbledon available in the archives of the Wimbledon Museum and Merton Library were taken by these three gentlemen. After 50 years of steady business the shop at 54 Wimbledon Hill Road was extended and the product range expanded to include art and graphic materials. Since the mid 1980's art, graphic and craft materials have become the main focus of the business. Bookselling is now specialised in art, craft and techniques. An on-site picture framing workshop was established in the early 1990's.
The company is now run by one of George's great grandsons, Ian Fielder. We are now specialist independent retailers with a long standing local reputation for service, knowledgeable staff and comprehensive stock ranges of art, craft materials and books.
